Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as key figures in House Halovar could enable the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This means them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
